Who's behind it
jobtracker.co.nz is built by James Graham, the person behind Calculate.co.nz, New Zealand's largest free calculator site, and its global sibling CalculatorHub.com. A data and analytics professional and former quantitative analyst, he studied Human Geography and Social Anthropology alongside mathematics and statistics at the University of Auckland, and works from a small village in Canterbury, west of Christchurch. He is on LinkedIn.
The analytics keeps every tax rate traced to IRD's published tables; the social science is the reminder that behind every number is a person making a real decision, often late at night.
The story, briefly
- 2009Knocked sideways by the global financial crisis, James finds a free government programme, "Be Your Own Boss": structure, confidence and a small grant, at exactly the right moment.
- 2011The first GST calculator tops Google within weeks. Two hundred websites later, they become Calculate.co.nz.
- 2021James buys jobtracker.co.nz, for an idea already older.
- TodayThe same mission, pointed at the job hunt: pass that help forward, at scale, without a bill at the end.
One thread runs through it all: handing information that sat behind a gate to the people it is about. In a job hunt the employer knows the band, the process and the timeline; the candidate, almost none of it.
Why jobtracker.co.nz
Most people run a job hunt from memory, a spreadsheet and a dozen email threads. Most tools are American: no PAYE, no KiwiSaver, and some bill by the week, in US dollars, while you are out of work. Here is where New Zealand differs:

It never scrapes job boards: capture happens on your own device, from pages you were already reading. No weekly billing, no ads, your history never held to ransom, and export and erase do exactly what they say.
