Your Timesheets

Make sure you are paid for every hour you work

Your own record of the hours you work, written down as you go. Type them into a week grid, or start a timer and let it count. Every change is kept, so the record stands up if your pay is ever questioned. Free on every plan, for every job you have.

No card. On your phone or your computer, on one account. Contractors, rates, projects and reports are below.

Your hours, written down the day you work them

Your employer keeps a record of your hours. This one is yours, kept as you go, so you can hold your payslip up beside it. All of this is free.

Why your own record matters

Two things New Zealand law says, plainly. This is general information, not legal advice.

Your employer keeps a record, and you can ask to see it

Employers must keep a wages and time record for each employee, and you can ask to see yours (Employment Relations Act 2000, section 130). A record you wrote down on the day is what you compare it with.

If something is wrong, the clock is running

A personal grievance must usually be raised within 90 days. A dated record you already have is one less thing to piece together from memory when you need it.

For contractors and freelancers: rates, projects and reports

Everything above is free. With Career and Timesheets or On the Move, the same hours turn into what you earned, who you earned it from and a timesheet to send.

  • Projects and tasks under each place or client. A project's contact, and whoever asked for a piece of work, are people from your Contacts.
  • Two rates: what you charge, and what an hour costs you. Set them as your defaults, or on the place, the project, the task or the entry, and each figure says where it came from.
  • Past hours stay put. The rate is copied onto each entry, so a new rate never rewrites hours you have already logged.
  • Bill your way: by the hour, a fixed fee or a monthly retainer, or mark the work as not billed.
  • Rounding up to the next 6, 15 or 30 minutes.
  • Budgets in hours or dollars, with a warning at 80%.
  • Reports: hours, billable hours, earned and your average hourly rate, each with the change on the period before. A breakdown by place, then project, then task. How you worked: days worked, your longest day, days over 8 hours, weekend hours, hours after 6pm and the shape of your week. Twelve months on one chart, split by client, and income by client.
  • A CSV of every entry for your spreadsheet or your accountant, and a branded PDF timesheet with lines to sign.

What it costs

Logging your hours is free on every plan. Prices are in New Zealand dollars, with GST included.

Questions

Is Your Timesheets free?

Yes. Logging your hours is free on every plan: the places you work, the week grid, start and finish times and notes, the timer, day and week totals, and the history of every change. Projects, rates, reports and the CSV and PDF come with Career and Timesheets or On the Move.

Does the timer keep going if my phone locks?

Yes. It keeps counting if your phone locks or the app closes, and you can stop it from any device you are signed in on, so a timer started on your phone can be stopped on your computer.

Can I log hours for two jobs?

Yes. Add each place you work and each gets its own row in the week. A day can hold more than one entry, for a split shift or two jobs on the same day. A place you never log hours for, such as a salaried job, can be hidden.

What happens when I change an entry?

The change is saved and the earlier version is kept in the entry's history. The history is kept by our database, not only on your phone, so the record stands up if your pay is ever questioned.

Can my employer see my timesheet?

No. It is your own record, in your own account, and nobody at your work can see it. If you want someone else to have it, you send it to them yourself.

I am a contractor. What does the paid plan add?

Projects and tasks under each client, two rates (what you charge and what an hour costs you) at any level, billing by the hour, a fixed fee or a monthly retainer, rounding, budgets with a warning at 80%, reports, a CSV of every entry and a branded PDF timesheet. Career and Timesheets is $6.99 a month, or $59.88 a year billed yearly, which is $4.99 a month, GST included. On the Move includes it too.
