Subject: Would you be a referee for me?
Hi Tom,
I am applying for a Senior Business Analyst role at Harbourline Logistics, and I would be grateful if you would be one of my referees, when you managed me at Rangitoto Capital.
If they call, it would help most if you could speak to the reporting platform project and how I work with stakeholders.
They would usually call in the next week or two. I will let you know if I get to that stage, and I will send you the ad so you know what the role is. If now is not a good time, that is completely fine.
Kind regards, Sam Hollis
How to use it
Ask before you give anyone's name. A referee who is expecting the call and knows the role gives a far better reference than one caught off guard.
Send them the ad when you reach the reference stage, and thank them afterwards whatever the outcome.
