Your hours, written down the day you work them

Your employer keeps a record of your hours. This one is yours, so you can hold your payslip up beside it. All of it is free.

A timer that keeps going

On a phone it opens on today: one press to start, and +15m or +1h for time you forgot. It counts on if your phone locks.

Every change kept

Fix a day and the earlier version stays, on our database, not only your phone. Mark a week sent and later changes say so.

Hours for Work and Income

Add what a place pays an hour, and each week's hours and pay before tax go into your Work and Income record.

Why your own record matters

Two things New Zealand law says. General information, not legal advice.

Your employer keeps a record, and you can ask to see it

Employers must keep a wages and time record for each employee, and you can ask to see yours (Employment Relations Act 2000, section 130). A record you wrote on the day is what you compare it with.

If something is wrong, the clock is running

A personal grievance must usually be raised within 90 days. A dated record you already have is one less thing to rebuild from memory.

For contractors and freelancers: rates, projects and reports

With Career and Timesheets or On the Move, the same hours become what you earned, who from, and a timesheet to send.

  • Projects and tasks under each client, with their contacts from your Contacts.
  • Two rates, what you charge and what an hour costs you, set once and changed for a place, project, task or entry.
  • Past hours stay put. A new rate never rewrites hours already logged.
  • Bill your way: by the hour, a fixed fee, a monthly retainer, or not billed.
  • Rounding to 6, 15 or 30 minutes, and budgets in hours or dollars with a warning at 80%.
  • A CSV for your accountant, CSV import from another timer, and a branded PDF timesheet with lines to sign.

From your hours to an invoice, and a Tax and GST guide

With Career and Timesheets or On the Move. You send everything yourself: we never email your client, take a payment or file a return. Our guides cover invoicing as a contractor and how much contractor tax to set aside.

The Tax and GST page, estimates only

  • A GST estimate (not a return): monthly, 2-monthly or 6-monthly, on the payments or invoice basis, with GST on sales, GST on expenses, the net figure, the due date and the return's boxes. Nothing is filed for you.
  • Provisional tax, estimated: whether it looks likely, the instalment dates and estimated amounts, and terminal tax, with an in-app reminder a week before a due date.
  • Levies and deductions: ACC's earners' levy and work levy, a student loan and KiwiSaver, each rate shown with its source and tax year. Income tax is always worked out in full.
  • Tax savings and an accountant pack: record what you move to your tax savings and see the gap, and at year end a PDF and a CSV for your accountant.

The figures in the picture are an example. The Tax and GST page gives estimates only, worked out from what you enter and Inland Revenue's and ACC's published rates for the tax year shown. It is not a tax return, a statement of your tax liability or tax advice: check in myIR, with ACC or with your accountant before you file or pay. See tax figures in our terms. The free plan keeps one line: the estimated total to set aside.

For your team: everyone's hours, and what a business needs on top

With Team seats, each person gets Career and Timesheets, paid by your business, and chooses to share the hours they log for you. The team gets everything below. Facts and arithmetic, never pay or employment advice. No GPS, screenshots or activity tracking.

$9.99 a person a month ($8.69 + GST), at least 3 people, with 14 days free. Your people pay nothing for their seat, and each decides whether to share. See Team timesheets.

What it costs

Logging your hours is free on every plan. New Zealand dollars, GST included.

Questions

Is Your Timesheets free?

Yes. Logging your hours is free on every plan: the week grid, the timer, every change kept, the Sent stamp, and your hours and pay in the Work and Income record. Projects, rates, reports, invoices, expenses, the Tax and GST page and share links come with Career and Timesheets or On the Move.

Does the timer keep going if my phone locks?

Yes. It keeps counting if your phone locks or the app closes, and stops from any device you are signed in on.

Can I log hours for two jobs?

Yes. Each place gets its own row, a day can hold a split shift, and a place you never log, such as a salaried job, can be hidden.

What happens when I change an entry?

The earlier version is kept in the entry's history, on our database rather than only your phone.

Can my employer see my timesheet?

Only if you choose. If your employer buys Team timesheets and invites you, you decide whether it sees the hours you log for it, and can stop at any time. It never sees the pay or rates in your own account, any other job, your job hunt or your career record, and it sees your notes only while you share them (ticked when you join, and you can switch it off).

I am a contractor. What does the paid plan add?

Projects, two rates, fixed fees and retainers, rounding, budgets, reports, CSV and a PDF timesheet, invoices, expenses and mileage, the Tax and GST page, and share links. Career and Timesheets is $4.99 a month billed yearly ($59.88 a year) or $6.99 month to month, GST included. On the Move includes it too.

Can I invoice my clients from my hours?

Yes, with Career and Timesheets or On the Move: numbered, with GST at 15% only when you are registered, as a PDF or a Word file you send yourself. We never email your client or take a payment, and hours are never billed twice.

Does it tell me how much tax to put aside?

As an estimate only, yes. The Tax and GST page in Your Timesheets shows an estimate of the tax to set aside from what you earned (income tax worked out in full, ACC's levies, a student loan and KiwiSaver), a GST estimate (not a return) when you are registered, provisional tax estimates and their dates, and what you have put aside against it. It is not a statement of your tax liability or tax advice: Inland Revenue or your accountant have the final word.

What does a team get?

Everything in Career and Timesheets for each person, paid by your business, plus the team's own tools: everyone's shared hours on one page, roles, optional approvals, team rates, budgets, team invoices, client sign-off and a live page for each client, project profit and a budget forecast, usual hours and hours over them, public holiday and long-day marks, a download ready for your payroll, missing-hours reminders, who's away, and a clock-in tablet with a PIN for each person. $9.99 a person a month, at least 3 people, 14 days free.

Can my team clock in on a shared tablet?

Yes, with Team seats. The Owner or an Admin locks a tablet or computer to the team, and each person who shares their hours taps their name and types their own 4-digit PIN to start or stop. The hours land in their own timesheet. Five wrong tries lock that PIN until its owner sets a new one, and no location, photo or detail of the tablet is kept with an entry.
